Historical background

GERMANY - WALDECK-PYRMONT

The Count of Waldeck-Eisenberg inherited the County of Pyrmont, located between Lippe and Hanover, thus creating an entity that encompasses a territory of approximately 1120 km². Waldeck and Pyrmont were definitively reunited in 1668, thus perpetuating the Eisenberg line since that date under the name of Waldeck-Pyrmont. The Count was made prince in 1712 and the unification of the two territories was confirmed in 1812. Waldeck-Pyrmont joined the German Confederation in 1815 and the North German Confederation in 1867. The prince renounced his sovereignty on October 1 of the same year and Waldeck-Pyrmont is incorporated into Prussia. However, coins are issued until the beginning of the 20th century for Waldeck-Pyrmont as a member of the Germanic Empire.
