Historical background

GERMANY - SCHWARZBURG-RUDOLSTADT

(1599-1918)

Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (in German: Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt) is a former German state of Thuringia, resulting from the partition of the county of Schwarzburg at the end of the 16th century. In 1909, with the extinction of the branch of Sondershausen, the principalities of Schwarzbourg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzbourg-Sondershausen were united under the name of Principality of Schwarzbourg. In November 1918, the principality was integrated into the Free State of Thuringia.
