GERMANY - KINGDOM OF PRUSSIA - Frederick William IV

(7/06/1840-2/01/1861)

Frederick William IV (1795-1861) was the eldest son of Frederick William III and Louise of Mecklenburg. He succeeded his father in 1840. Liberal, he changed his opinion with the pan-European revolution of 1848. He loses his mind and his brother, the future William I, regent from 1856. Frederick William IV died in 1861 without children. He married Elisabeth of Bavaria. His brother William I then ascended the throne.
