The county of Mansfeld was part of the circle of Upper Saxony and adjoined the principalities of Anhalt, Alberstadt, Saxony-Eisenach and Electoral Saxony. The main towns are Eisleben and Sangerhausen. In 1780 the county was divided between Saxony and Prussia during the extinction of the family of the counts of Mansfeld.
