Ces médailles de propagande ont été frappées pour commémorer la victoire française de 1857. Alors gouverneur de l’Algérie, le général Jacques Louis Randon organise en mai 1857 une expédition militaire dans le Djurdjura en Kabylie. Début juillet, la Grande Kabylie est soumise et la résistance algérienne cesse.
These propaganda medals were struck to commemorate the French victory of 1857. In May 1857, then governor of Algeria, General Jacques Louis Randon organized a military expedition to Djurdjura in Kabylie. By early July, Greater Kabylie was subdued and Algerian resistance ceased.
