Commentary

Cette rare plaquette est terminée en 1914 mais elle ne fut distribuée qu’en 1920 aux membres de la Société des Amis de la Médaille Française. Seulement 117 exemplaires ont été réalisés ; cet exemplaire porte le n° 45 sur la tranche. Nous avons retrouvé trois exemples de vendus ; en 2012 à 1.400€ (n° 54/117), en 2013 à 850€ (n° 105/117) et en 2016 à 500£. Un autre exemplaire en argent (n° 39/117) a été vendu 900€ en 2014.
Cette médaille date du séjour de Pierre Lenoir à Biskra en Algérie en 1911. Pierre Lenoir est un sculpteur français ; il commence sa formation à l’école des beaux-arts de Rennes, puis la poursuit à l’École des beaux-arts de Paris. Il est l'auteur de médailles, de monuments aux morts et de bustes..
This rare plaquette was completed in 1914 but was not distributed until 1920 to members of the Société des Amis de la Médaille Française. Only 117 examples were made; this example bears the number 45 on the edge. We have found three examples sold; in 2012 for €1,400 (No. 54/117), in 2013 for €850 (No. 105/117) and in 2016 for £500. Another silver example (No. 39/117) was sold for €900 in 2014. This medal dates from Pierre Lenoir's stay in Biskra, Algeria, in 1911. Pierre Lenoir was a French sculptor; he began his training at the Rennes School of Fine Arts, then continued at the Paris School of Fine Arts. He is the author of medals, war memorials and busts.
