Exemplaire sur un petit flan. Beau portrait légèrement décentré sur le cou. Usure régulière. Frappe un peu faible au revers. Recouvert d’une épaisse patine grise de collection ancienne

Obverse description : Tête d'Apollon Grynion laurée et diadémée à droite, les cheveux longs tombant sur le cou.

Reverse description : Apollon marchant à droite, tenant de la main droite un phiale, sacrifiant, et de la gauche une branche de laurier auquel sont suspendues deux bandelettes ; à ses pieds à droite, l'omphalos et une amphore ; dans le champ à gauche, monogramme ; le tout dans une couronne de laurier.

Historical background


AIOLIS - MYRINA

(2nd century BC)

Myrhina, located northeast of Cyme, eclipsed by its powerful neighbor only appears in the Hellenistic period. Coinage would begin around 300 BC. The city was famous for the worship of Apollo Grynion. But the symbol of the city seems to have been the amphora which is placed at the feet of Apollo.
