Le concept du Concorde, nom choisi par le général de Gaulle, naît en 1962, de la volonté des gouvernements français et britannique de signer un accord pour la conception et la construction d’un avion de ligne supersonique. Produit par British Aircraft Corporation et Sud-Aviation, Concorde est équipé de réacteurs à postcombustion fabriqués par Rolls-Royce et SNECMA. Il effectue son premier vol le 2 mars 1969, piloté par André Turcat. Le prototype 001 reste 29 minutes dans le ciel au-dessus de Toulouse. Tous les témoins de ce premier vol en gardent un souvenir exceptionnel, celui de découvrir un avion unique en son genre. Concorde apparaît dans toute sa splendeur, avec sa voilure d’une beauté légendaire due à son aile delta triangulaire, spécialement étudiée pour le vol supersonique.(c.f.Trésor du Patrimoine).
Medal in capsule. The Concorde concept, named by General de Gaulle, originated in 1962 from the desire of the French and British governments to sign an agreement for the design and construction of a supersonic airliner. Produced by British Aircraft Corporation and Sud-Aviation, Concorde was equipped with afterburning engines manufactured by Rolls-Royce and SNECMA. It made its first flight on March 2, 1969, piloted by André Turcat. Prototype 001 remained airborne for 29 minutes over Toulouse. All those who witnessed this first flight retain an exceptional memory of discovering a truly unique aircraft.
