Obverse translation : “Lucius Ælius Cæsar”, (Lucius Aélius césar).

Reverse legend : [T-R POT] - COS - II/ S|C// SALVS.
Reverse description : Salus (la Santé) drapée, assise à gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et nourrissant un serpent enroulé autour d’un autel.
Reverse translation : “Tribunicia Potestate Consul iterum// Salus”, (Revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la deuxième fois// la Santé).

Commentary


Poids lourd. Cet exemplaire fait partie d’une série de sesterces, dupondii et as où l’on peut aussi retrouver “CONCORDIA” à l’exergue. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type en dupondius.

Caesar

Aélius receives the title of Caesar at the very end of 136. Consul in 137, he becomes Lucius Ælius Verus and is sent as governor to Pannonia in 137. Sick, he returns to Rome and dies on January 1, 138.
