Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan ovale et irrégulier, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait d’Aélius. Joli revers finement détaillé. Belle patine grise avec des reflets dorés légèrement tachée. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Obverse description : Tête nue d’Aelius à droite (O°).
Obverse translation : “Lucius Ælius Cæsar”, (Lucius Aelius césar).

Reverse


Reverse legend : TR - POT - COS II.
Reverse description : Salus (la Santé) drapé, debout à gauche, tenant une boîte à encens de la main gauche et tendant la main droite au-dessus d’un autel paré et allumé.
Reverse translation : “Tribunicia Potestate Consul iterum”, (Revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la seconde fois).

Commentary


Sur cet exemplaire, la Santé tient bien une boîte à encens de sa main gauche.

Caesar

Aélius receives the title of Caesar at the very end of 136. Consul in 137, he becomes Lucius Ælius Verus and is sent as governor to Pannonia in 137. Sick, he returns to Rome and dies on January 1, 138.
