Poids léger. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de trente-huit coins de droit et de quarante-sept coins de revers. Ce denier semble en fait plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages de référence.

The choice of our monetary type is perhaps not unrelated to the victory won in Asia Minor by Marcus Perpena, one of the two consuls, over Aristonicus who had revolted in 132 BC claiming to be the descendant of Attalus III, the last king of Pergamon who had bequeathed his kingdom to the Romans. Indeed, the victory of this consul consecrated the victory of the Romans over the rebellious Greeks of Asia Minor. Lucius Cornelius Lentulus was the second consul that year.
