Commentary


Sur cet exemplaire, au droit, nous n’avons pas Argos. Ce type semble en fait beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous proposons un exemplaire à la vente.

Acarnania - ARGOS AMPHILOCHICUM

(IV-III century BC)

Argos was founded by Amphilochus, an Argive. The city nicknamed Amphilochicum to distinguish the Peloponnesian Argos was located in the Gulf of Ambracia. The city had to face several attacks Ambracian its neighbor. The city was rescued several times by the Athenians, the last time in 426 BC, it was saved by the general Demosthenes. Under the influence of the fourth century Corinth, Argos as Ambracia belonged to the League Acarnanienne. Around 270 BC, the city fell under the domination of the Aetolian League.
