Historical background

AKARNANIA - ANACTORION

(IVe siècle avant J.-C.)

Anactorium, located at the entrance to the Gulf Ambracian near Actium, was one of the oldest Corinthian colonies founded in the seventh century BC In 425, the Corinthian elements were driven out by the Athenians and Acarnanians during the Peloponnesian War. When the Sacred War, between 355 and 346 BC, Anactorium favorable to the Corinthians sided with the Thebans against the Phocians. It was at this time that the monetary emissions resumed.
