Historical background

REUNION ISLAND

Discovered in 1513 by Portuguese Mascarenhas, the island became French in 1638. Named Bourbon, the concession is given to the East India Company in 1664 and then in 1793 she became Reunion. She is one of four departments overseas since 1946. The island is greatly aided by the metropolis.
