Commentary

Proof of the reverse side for the 10,000 Francs Victoire note not issued on large-format paper. The depletion of banknote stocks following the events of 1938 led the Bank of France to urgently launch the development of 300 Franc, 3,000 Franc, and 10,000 Franc notes. This urgency prompted the design department to reuse the vignette from the 5,000 Francs Victoire note and transform it into a 10,000 Franc note, enlarging the vignette and adding a line of text on the left and right, reading \\\"Banque de France - Dix Mille Francs\\\" (Bank of France - Ten Thousand Francs). The colors of this proof are slightly different from those of the 1934 5,000 Francs note.
