SIERRA LEONE

From the sixteenth century, the coastal populations of Sierra Leone involved in the slave trade in the triangular trade introduced by European traders. In 1787, the British buy the peninsula will become the capital Freetown. 400 black from London dwell there. Then, the Sierra Leone Company helps loyalists black refugee from North America Nova Scotia to settle. In 1794, Sierra Leone became the first British colony in West Africa. The country became independent in 1961.
