Exemplaire sur un grand flan, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait stéréotypé de Constantin Ier. Frappe un peu faible au revers pour un revers inhabituel à Lyon. Patine marron foncé

Obverse description : Buste lauré et drapé et cuirassé de Constantin Ier auguste à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A*2).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Constantinus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur Constantin pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI/ F|T// PLG.
Reverse description : Sol (le Soleil) radié, nu le manteau sur l’épaule, marchant à gauche, le manteau flottant, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la gauche.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto Comiti”, (Au compagnon le Soleil invincible).
Commentary
Rubans convergents : rubans descendant verticalement le long de la nuque (type 3). La cuirasse est peu visible devant le paludamentum. En revanche, nous distinguons quatre points posés en losange sur l’épaule. Au revers les lettres dans le champ F|T pourraient être les initiales de “Felicitas Temporum” pour la Félicité du temps. Nous n’avons pas noté de liaison de coin pertinente. C’est le cinquième exemplaire recensé. Prendra le numéro 529d dans le Supplément III du Bastien.
Converging ribbons: ribbons descending vertically along the nape of the neck (type 3). The cuirass is barely visible in front of the paludamentum. On the other hand, we can distinguish four points placed in a diamond shape on the shoulder. On the reverse, the letters in the F|T field could be the initials of “Felicitas Temporum” for the Felicity of Time. We have not noted any relevant die connection. This is the fifth example recorded. Constantine was born in 274, son of Constance Chlore and Helena. He was named Caesar on the death of his father on July 25, 306 and was proclaimed august on December 25, 307. He married Fausta, the daughter of Maximien Hercule, who gave him five children, three of whom were augusts. The first twenty years of his reign are devoted to imposing himself as the main august against Maximian Hercules, Galerius, Maxentius, Maximin II and Licinius. He is recognized as the first Christian emperor, although baptized only on his deathbed on May 22, 337.
