En 1923, la concession accordée à la British South Africa Company (BSAC) sur le territoire du Matabeleland n’est pas renouvellée. Le Rhodésie devient alors une colonie britannique qui sera fédérée en 1953 avec la Rhodésie du Nord et le Nyassaland.
