Dimensions sans bélière : 50*30 mm

Cet exemplaire, de forme rectangle au bord arrondis, s’ouvre et permet de placer un souverain (diamètre : 22,5 mm) et un 20 franc (21 mm)

Les emplacements pour les pièces sont guillochés créant un motif discret de rosace.

On note divers poinçons : R.P. , ancre, lion, C à l’intérieur du couvercle. Lion et C sur les rebords des emplacements des pièces et Charançon sur le bouton.
Dimensions without bail: 50 x 30 mm. This rectangular coin case with rounded edges opens to hold a sovereign (22.5 mm diameter) and a 20-franc coin (21 mm). The coin slots are guilloché, creating a subtle rosette pattern. Various hallmarks are present: RP, anchor, lion, and C inside the lid. A lion and C are on the edges of the coin slots, and a weevil is on the knob.

From the Middle Ages until the middle of the 19th century, deniers, écus, and then the first francs and centimes, were carried in purses, alms pouches, or small leather change purses, often attached to the belt. When, in the second half of the 19th century, the Second Empire put into circulation more than one hundred million 20-franc gold coins minted with the image of Louis Napoleon III, it was necessary to create a safe and practical system for storing and individually transporting these precious coins.
