Reverse description : Dionysos debout à gauche, vêtu de l‘himation, tenant une grappe de raisin de la main droite tendue et un long thyrse de la gauche ; à ses pieds, une panthère à gauche, levant la patte droite et tournant la tête à droite.

Historical background


PHRYGIA - DIONYSOPOLIS

(2nd - 1st century BC)

Dionysopolis was founded in the 2nd century BC by the kings of Pergamon, Eumenes II (197-159 AC) or Attalus II (159-138 AC.). The city of Dionysopolis, located 8 km northwest of the district of Çal in Denizli and near the market town of Ortaköy and was located in the valley near the headwaters of the Meander at the limit of Lydia.
