The city of Acmoneia was located on the course of a tributary of the Sindrus (Senaros). It was founded at the instigation of the Seleucids or the Attlalids. It passed under Attalid domination after the Peace of Apamea before becoming part of the province of Asia after 133 BC. Under Roman administration, it was attached to the province of Cilicia at the end of the republican period..
