Flan large avec des types complets et bien centrés des deux côtés. Qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type rare. Patine irisée, typique d’une longue conservation en médaillier

Obverse
Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête à gauche, avec mèches frontales arquées et encadrées d'un trait et autres mèches, épaisses ou minces, recourbées au bout ; œil de face très ovalisé ; oreille ; bouche et nez bouletés de deux points chacun ; très fort menton globulaire.

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Croix bouletée au centre, formée de quatre cantons : point cerclé entouré d'un grènetis aux 1er et 2e canton, une hache pleine verticale, avec manche lisse bouleté au sommet, tournée à gauche au 3e et la même hache horizontale, tranchant en bas au 4e canton.
Commentary
R. Boudet n’a répertorié que 18 exemplaires, dont onze à la BN, les trois du Savès et celui de Lyon. Tous les exemplaires de la série dite “de Belvès” ont un poids proche de 1,8 gramme.

The Pétrocoriens or Pétrocores whose territory extended between the Dordogne and the Vézère on the current department of the Dordogne, (the former Périgord) had Périgueux for capital. They were part of Celtic Gaul and will then be attached to Aquitaine. They appear late as the Nitiobroges at the time of the final phase of the Gallic Wars. They provided a contingent of 5,000 men to the relief army. Strabo pointed out that the Petrocores were very good metallurgists and worked iron. Sources: Caesar (BG. VII, 75, Strabo IV, 2, 2).
