Flan un peu court au droit, de style rugueux / Revers de très beau style avec une Athéna pleine de grâce. Début de cassure de coin sur la tête d'Athéna

Commentary
Traces de surfrappe au droit et au revers laissant supposer un original de fabrication illyrienne, épirote ou acarnanienne. Même coin de revers que l'exemplaire du British Museum (BMC 21). Poids léger.

EPEIROS - AMBRAKIA
(426-360 BC)
The city was situated on a promontory at the bottom of the Gulf of Ambracia on the left bank of the Arachtus, 80 stadia from the coast (14 kms). The city was colonized by the Corinthians around 660 BC. During the Peloponnesian War, the Ambraciotes were faithful allies of the Corinthians and Lacedaemonians. She fought effectively against the Acarnanians. Following the intervention of Athens in the region under the leadership of Phormion, Ambracia concludes a perpetual peace with Argos and Leucas. Ambracia sent reinforcements to Syracuse during the Athenian landing in Sicily in 415 BC. Under Pyrrhus it was the capital of the kingdom of Epirus.
