Exemplaire sur un petit flan irrégulier, bien centré avec les grènetis visibles. Beaux portraits des Dioscures. Revers de style fin, bien venu à la frappe. Belle patine marron foncé

Obverse description : Bustes accolés des Dioscures (Castor et Pollux) drapés à droite, coiffés, chacun d’un bonnet (pileus), surmonté d’une étoile ; grènetis circulaire.
Reverse
Reverse description : Déméter (Cérès) drapée debout à gauche, tenant un long sceptre de la main droite et une branche de laurier de la main gauche ; devant, un croissant ; grènetis circulaire.
Reverse legend : [R]HGINWN/ IIII.
Reverse translation : (de Rhégium/ tetras).
Commentary
Poids léger. Le IIII est une marque de valeur, tandis que le croissant permet d’identifier Déméter.

BRUTTIUM - RHEGIUM
(203-89 BC)
Rhegium (Rhegion), the last city of the Italian boot on the continent, located on the Strait of Messina opposite Sicily, was founded around 720 BC by Chalcidian settlers. The city was destroyed in 387 BC by Dionysius of Syracuse. It was nevertheless rebuilt by Dionysius the Younger around 356-350 BC. The Romans captured the city in 271 BC, but were quickly expelled. After 203 BC and the end of the Second Punic War, Rhegium fell definitively under Roman domination..
