Historical background

SICILY - SICELIOTES - MORGANTINA

(215-211 BC)

During the Second Punic War (221-202 BC) in the phase that pitted the Romans against the Carthaginians and their allies between 215 and 211 BC in Sicily, the pro-Carthaginian party seemed to have taken as headquarters, Morgantina. After the fall of Syracuse in 212 BC, Himilco and the supporters of Carthage with the Siceliotes found refuge in Morgantina which did not fall into Roman hands until 211 BC.
