Historical background

SABINA

(+136)

Diva

Sabine is the daughter of Matidie and the granddaughter of Marciane, Trajan's sister. Hadrian, Trajan's ward, married his tutor's great-niece in 100. The couple was not happy and had no children. Sabine received the title of augusta in 128 only. She died at the end of the year 136, not having forgiven the Emperor for his affair with Antinous, nor for the Emperor's preference for Aelius. She was deified after her death.
