Historical background

Quentovic - CURRENCY ASSETS ON BEHALF OF CHARLES THE BALD

(Tenth century)

Quentovic was a very important port on the Canche (Pas-de-Calais). A mint is attested from the Merovingian period, see the article by Jean Lafaurie on Vvic in Pontio: Merovingian coins Vvicus, RN.1996, p.181-239, pl.29-32, in particular pages 182 -191 on the situation of the port, according to the author, would have been near Montreuil in front of Etaples. The workshop Quentovic struck again in the tenth century immobilized on behalf of Charles the Bald currencies.
