Historical background

PICARDY - BISHOPRIC OF BEAUVAIS - HENRY OF FRANCE

(1149-1162)

Hugues Capet minted denarii and obols in Beauvais jointly with Bishop Hervé (around 985-998). After a long period of unemployment, the Beauvaisin mint minted new coins under the episcopate of Henry of France (1149-1162). The strikes continued under Bishop Barthélemy de Montcornet (1162-1175) to end under the episcopate of Philippe I of Dreux (1175-1217).
