Exemplaire sur un flan ovale bien centré. Joli portrait. Revers à l’usure régulière. Patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets mordorés

Obverse description : Buste d’Artaban III à gauche, tête nue un bandeau triple, avec nœud qui tombe derrière la tête, la chevelure tombant sur la nuque, la barbe fournie et pointue ; pendentif à l’oreille.
Reverse
Reverse description : Archer assis à droite sur un trône, tenant un arc de la main droite ; sous l’arc, un monogramme.
Reverse legend : BASILEWS/ BASILEWN/ ARSAKOU/ DIKAIOU/ EUERGETOU/ EPIFANOUS/ FILELLHNOS.

Sur cet exemplaire, la crête de la chevelure est décrite en “hameçon” par certains auteurs .

Artaban III is a usurper who revolted at the beginning of the reign of Pacorus II (77-105). The end of the reign of Vologèse I (51-78) had been very troubled. Vologèse II (77-80) and Pacorus had revolted against his authority. Pacorus first got rid of Vologèse II before attacking Artaban III. Artabanus III is known to the Romans for having supported a pseudo-Nero during the reign of Titus in the Euphrates region. Artaban III was finally eliminated by Pacorus II.
