Historical background

PARTHIAN KINGDOM - ARTABANUS I

(127-124 BC)

Artaban I, brother of Mithridates I, succeeded his nephew Phraates II in 127 BC. It is the Artaban of ancient authors. Occupied in the east, he could not sustain the fight against the Seleucids and spent most of his reign trying to drive back the Saces (Sakastan, Sistan today). He died fighting them.
