Historical background

MYSIA -PERGAMENE KINGDOM - EUMENES I

(263-241 BC)

Eumenes I was the nephew of Philetario. He succeeded his uncle in 263 BC. He had to fight against Antiochus I Soter (280-261 BC) and defeated him near Sardis, which allowed Eumenes to safeguard the Kingdom of Pergamon. He also fought the remnants of Gallic mercenaries who had taken refuge in Asia Minor and let them settle in Galatia (Galatians). Throughout his reign, Eumenes had to fight against the Seleucids, Antiochus II, Seleucus II and at the end of his reign, Antiochus Hierax. Attalus I succeeded him.
