Buste exceptionnel. Intéressante représentation au revers d’un balancier telle qu’on la rencontre aussi dans les ouvrages de l’époque notamment Boizard ou Le Blanc.

Historical background

MINT AND MONNAYEURS OF ROUEN

The mint of Rouen dates back to Roman times and remained active until 1858. It used several different ones including the 15th point, the paschal lamb under Henry VI or the mint letter B since 1540. The mint is the worker in charge of making coins with a hammer. He mints the blanks into coins by exerting pressure with a hammer. The coin mechanism is seated around a block in which the battery is stuck (lower corner or dead corner). He places a blank on it then affixes the keychain (or top corner) on which he strikes with the help of a heavy hammer. The blank is imprinted simultaneously on both sides and transformed into coin. Subsequently, the coiner is the worker in charge of the operation of a pendulum or monetary press. The fitter is responsible for preparing the blanks, which he adjusts to the weight prescribed by the prescriptions..
