Obverse description : Buste diadémé et drapé de Matidie à droite vu de trois quarts en avant avec le stéphané et une coiffure très élaborée (L4).

Obverse translation : "Matidia Augusta Divae Marcianae Filia", (Matidie Augusta Fille de la Divinne Marciane).

Reverse

Reverse legend : PIETAS AVGVST.

Reverse description : Matidie debout de face, regardant à gauche, et plaçant ses mains sur la tête de Sabine et Matidie Jeune, l'une à sa droite, l'autre à sa gauche.

Reverse translation : "Pietas Augustae", (La Piété de l'Augusta).

sister of Marciana, mother of Sabina, nephew in law of Trajan

Matidie is the daughter of Marciane (Ulpia Marciana) and Caius Salonius Matidius Patruinus. She is also the niece of Trajan, who considers her his daughter. She marries Lucius Vibius Sabinus. In 100 AD, his daughter Sabina (Vibia Sabina) married Hadrian, also a ward and cousin of Trajan. When she died in 112, Matidie immediately received the title of Augusta. After her death in 119, she was deified.
