Posthumous and illegitimate son of Giuliano de Medici and his last mistress, Fioretta Gorini, Julius de Medici (1478-1534) is the nephew of Lorenzo the Magnificent, and therefore the cousin of Pope Leo X. He tries to counter the influence of Charles Quint. In 1527, Rome was sacked. However, he turns out to be a great patron like his uncle Leo X.
