Bel exemplaire centré des deux côtés, flan ovale. Beau buste d’Honorius au droit, bien venu à la frappe. Quelques fines rayures. Très joli revers richement détaillé. Patine de collection

Obverse description : Buste casqué, diadémé, et cuirassé d’Honorius de face vu de trois quarts de face à droite, tenant une lance sur l’épaule et un bouclier orné d’un cavalier, terrassant un guerrier (N’a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Honorius Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Honorius pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : CONCORDI-A AVGGA/ -|-// CONOB.
Reverse description : Constantinople assise de face, tournée à droite, casquée et drapée, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main gauche et un sceptre long de la main droite, le pied gauche posé sur une proue de navire.
Reverse translation : “Concordia Augustorum”, (la Concorde des deux augustes).
Commentary
Rubans perlés de type 3 aux extrémités globulées. Diadème perlé orné d’un cabochon rond gemmé. Cuirasse cloutée et décorée. Bouclier orné d’un cavalier terrassant un fantassin. Type sans étoile, frappé entre 397 et 402, associant seulement Arcadius et Honorius avec deux G pour la légende de revers.

Born in 384, Honorius was named Augustus in 393. On the death of his father, he inherited the West with Stilicho as regent. The beginning of the 5th century saw an unprecedented wave of invasions. The limes definitely give way under the pressure. In 410, Rome was even taken. The Western empire is in full disintegration. Numerous usurpations took place in Brittany with Constantin III, in Gaul with Constans, Jovin and Sébastien, in Spain with Maxime and in Italy with Attale. Honorius dies in Ravenna in 423 after thirty years of reign, leaving an empire disintegrated.
