Exemplaire sur un flan large et ovale avec les grènetis complets. Beaux portraits, mais frappe faible sur les légendes des deux côtés. Joli revers

Obverse description : Bustes de face vus à mi-corps d'Héraclius à gauche et d'Héraclius Constantin à droite couronnés et vêtus de la chlamyde ; Héraclius porte la barbe longue, Héraclius Constantin, moustachu ; au milieu au-dessus, une croisette.
Obverse translation : “Domini Nostri Heraclius et Heraclius Constantinus Augusti”, (Nos seigneurs Héraclius et Héraclius Constantin augustes).

Commentary


Faiblesse de frappe, visibles des deux côtés avec un plat et le métal légèrement pincé. Cet exemplaire semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages de référence. Manque à toutes les grandes collections.

HERACLIUS and HERACLIUS CONSTANTIN

Heraclius was prefect of Africa since the reign of Maurice Tiberius. With his son, also named Heraclius, he rebelled against the tyranny of Phocas. Sedition broke out in the summer of 608 and quickly Héracliides contrôlèrent Carthage and Alexandria and Cyprus. October 4, 610, Heraclius landed at Constantinople overthrew Phocas and put him to death. The reign of Heraclius began badly. The Sassanids occupied Asia Minor and Jerusalem in particular. From 622, Heraclius took the offensive and Jerusalem once again became Christian in 628. Heraclius recovered the true cross, symbol of the new type of solidus. He married Martine, his niece, his second wife. She was the mother of Héraclonas, born in 626, created Caesar in 630, associated to the throne in 638. After the death of Heraclius, 11 January 641, Heraclius Constantine disappeared in turn 20 April 641. He is the son of Martine, Héraclonas, who ascended the throne. From September, Héraclonas was forced to crown his nephew Constans as co-emperor. It was introduced in October, mutilated and exiled with his mother in Rhodes.
