Magnifique drachme sur un flan particulièrement large et pourtant avec deux cantons presque hors flan. Patine finement irisée de collection ancienne
Predigree :
Cet très bel exemplaire provient probablement du Trésor de Belvès ; il a été vendu dans les ventes Albuquerque 39, n° 185, Munz Zentrum Auktion 71, 3 juin 1991, n° 23 et Poindessault 21 mai 2010, n° 112
Obverse
Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête à gauche, avec mèches frontales arquées et encadrées d'un trait et autres mèches, épaisses ou minces, recourbées au bout ; œil de face très ovalisé ; oreille ; bouche et nez bouletés de deux points chacun ; très fort menton globulaire.
Reverse
Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Croix bouletée au centre, formée de quatre cantons : une oreille pointée au 1er, une rouelle à quatre rayons au 2e, une hache évidée tournée à gauche au 3e et un globule au 4e canton.
Commentary
L’association du droit et du revers rapproche cette drachme du S. 213. Style inhabituel sur un flan particulièrement large !.

(1st century BC)
The Pétrocoriens or Pétrocores whose territory extended between the Dordogne and the Vézère on the current department of the Dordogne, (the former Périgord) had Périgueux for capital. They were part of Celtic Gaul and will then be attached to Aquitaine. They appear late as the Nitiobroges at the time of the final phase of the Gallic Wars. They provided a contingent of 5,000 men to the relief army. Strabo pointed out that the Petrocores were very good metallurgists and worked iron. Sources: Caesar (BG. VII, 75, Strabo IV, 2, 2).
