Commentary


Il s’agit bien de Ptolémée VIII plutôt que de Ptolémée VI (SNG Cop. 299). Ptolémée VIII fait commencer le début de son règne en 170 avant J.-C., date à laquelle il fut associé au pouvoir de son frère Ptolémée VI, avant de se brouiller avec lui six ans plus tard et non pas en 145, date de son accession réelle après la mort de son frère.

Ptolemy VIII is the son of Ptolemy V Epiphanes (204-180 BC) and Cleopatra I, daughter of Antiochus III of Syria. Child in the death of his father, it was his brother who ascended the throne under the name of Ptolemy VI Philometor (180-145 BC).
