Historical background

CHAMBRE DES COMPTES DE DIJON / ACCOUNTS CHAMBER OF DIJON

The Chamber of Accounts already existed in the time of the kings of Burgundy. In 1319, it settled down and became the second in the kingdom on the model of that of Paris. For its service, tokens were made from the beginning of the 15th century. The Chamber gains funds from the payment of spices and "refreshments". These funds are devoted in the 17th century to make tokens which are then distributed to the presidents, masters and people of the king, suitors and auditors, clerk and receiver of spices in the form of a purse or half-purse.
