Reverse description : Pax (la Paix) debout à gauche, tenant une branche d'olivier de la main droite et un sceptre long vertical de la main gauche.

Reverse translation : “Pax Augusti”, (La Paix de l'auguste).

Très beau buste large de Carausius.

Historical background

CARAUSIUS

(late 286-293)

Carausius is named commander-in-chief of the fleet in charge of fighting against Frankish and Breton pirates. Proclaimed august in 286, he seized Brittany and part of the west coast of northern Gaul, between Scheldt and Seine. He was assassinated at the end of 293 by Allectus, his praetorian prefect.
