Exemplaire sur un petit flan irrégulier et épais, presque quadrangulaire. Beau portrait. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Jolie patine marron foncé lissée

Obverse description : Buste du Christ Antiphonetes debout de face, avec le globe crucigère, vêtu du pallium et du colombium, bénissant de la main droite et tenant les Évangiles de la gauche.
Obverse translation : (Dieu avec nous).

Reverse legend : + IHSUS/ XRISTYS /BASILEU/ BASILE'.
Reverse description : en quatre lignes surmontées d'un ornement.
Reverse translation : (Jésus-Christ roi des rois).
Commentary
Follis anonyme (classe A2). Classe A3. Les Évangiles sont richement ornés avec cinq globules posés en carré centré. Le nimbe crucigère porte trois croisettes. Carré à l’exergue du revers. Cassure de coin au droit dans le vêtement du Christ. Ce type est attribué à Constantin VIII seul après 1025 et la mort de Basile II.

Basil II the Bulgaroctone was the greatest emperor of the Macedonian dynasty which died out with Theodora in 1056. Basil II was the son of Roman II and Theophano. He had been elevated to power by his father, still a child, in 960. He was associated with power during the successive reigns of Nicephorus II Phocas and John I. Constantin VIII, his brother, was subordinate to him throughout his reign and succeeded him in 1025 for only three years. Basil restored Byzantine authority in the Balkans and Asia Minor.
