Historical background

ARGENTINA - CÓRDOBA PROVINCE

(1833-1854)

The Province of Córboba located in the central region of Argentina is one of the most prolific for minting provincial coins. As early as 1833, coins were minted on behalf of the provincial authorities by private dealers. On February 2, 1844, Governor Manuel López instituted the Casa de Moneda de Córdoba under the leadership of José María Aldao. The monetary workshop will operate until 1854. The government of the Argentine Confederation, whose headquarters are located in Paraná, ordered the closure of the Casa de Moneda de Córdoba by decree of June 19, 1855.
