BULGE - DUCHÉ BROTH - GODEFROY-MAURICE DE LA TOUR D'Auvergne

(1676-1721)

Godefroy-Maurice de la Tour, son of Frederick Maurice de la Tour (1605-1652) and Eleanor Catherine van der Fébronie Berghet born June 21, 1636. He is the nephew of Turenne. Since 1658 he is great chamberlain of Louis XIV and since April 19, 1662 the husband of Marie-Anne Mancini, niece of Mazarin. He was patron Duke of Bouillon since his father had given the principality of Sedan to the king to save his life when the conspiracy of Cinq-Mars in 1642. In 1675, when the king invaded the bishopric of Luxembourg and Bouillon, he formed for Godefroy-Maurice principality, the Duchy of Bouillon, who kept it until his death in 1691. Possession of the duchy was confirmed in 1679 by the Treaty of Nijmegen. He died July 26, 1721.
