Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un petit flan épais, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Magnifique portrait expressif et inhabituel. Joli revers. Jolie patine marron. Conserve une partie de son brillant d’origine et de son coupant de frappe au droit

Commentary
Rubans de type 3. Buste tout à fait exceptionnel avec un buste radié à droite, drapé sur l’épaule (O2) qui ne se rencontre que pour ce revers. Sur cet exemplaire de joli style, le drapé est bien visible de chaque côté du cou.
Type 3 ribbons. Quite exceptional bust with a bust radiated to the right, draped over the shoulder (O2) which is only found on this reverse. On this pretty style example, the draping is clearly visible on each side of the neck

Historical background
VICTORINUS

Victorin spent his entire career under the reign of Postumus, of whom he was one of the main civil collaborators. He succeeds Marius, who died just after Postumus. Victorin definitively loses Spain at the beginning of the reign and has to face seditions in Brittany and Gaul. The siege of Autun, a university town in Gaul, lasted seven months. Shortly after, Victorin was assassinated in Cologne by one of his officers, a jealous husband, when he had just restored order in Gaul with the capture of Autun.
