Très beau portrait centré avec la légende lisible. Revers un peu décentré. Flan épais, avec les cassures du penons de coulée. Patine grise aux reflets métalliques

Obverse description : Tête à gauche, l’épaule droite ornée d’une sorte d’aile ; légende devant le visage.

Reverse legend : RATVM[ACIOS].
Reverse description : Aigle à gauche, les ailes déployées ; tenant un petit oiseau dans ses serres et un serpent dans le bec.
Commentary
Ce bronze a la particularité d'avoir la légende complète au droit et de présenter une sorte d'aile au niveau de l'épaule droite, comme on le connaît sur les deniers à légende ATEVLA. Cette monnaie est très proche, pour le droit, de celles qui sont conservées à la BN et illustrées dans le RIG, à la légende ECOA.
Au revers, la légende RATVM[ACIOS] est incomplète et très finement gravée ou mal frappée.
This bronze has the particularity of having the complete legend on the obverse and of presenting a sort of wing at the level of the right shoulder, as we know on the denarii with the legend ATEVLA. This coin is very close, for the obverse, to those which are preserved at the BN and illustrated in the RIG, with the legend ECOA. On the reverse, the legend RATVM[ACIOS] is incomplete and very finely engraved or badly struck

VELIOCASSES (Area of Norman Vexin)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Véliocasses, people of Belgian Gaul, lived in the Norman Vexin located in the current department of Seine-Maritime. Their neighbors were the Lexovians and the Aulerci Éburovices, with the Seine as their border, and on the other side the Parisii, the Calètes and the Bellovaques. They participated in the Belgian coalition of 57 BC, led by the Bellovaques and provided a contingent of ten thousand men. But in 52 BC, for the relief army to release Vercingetorix besieged in Alesia, they only gave three thousand men. The following year, in 51 BC, they took part for the last time in the coalition of the Belgians in revolt under the leadership of the Bellovaques. Their main oppidum was Rouen (Rotomagus). Caesar (BG. II, 4; VII, 75; VIII, 7); Pliny (HN. IV). Ptolemy (G. II, 8). Kruta: 366.
