Exemplaire sur un flan large et irrégulier, échancré au droit à 4 heures, court sur la légende au revers. Très beau portrait au droit. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Jolie patine marron foncé

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Valentinien II à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A'a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Valentinianus Iunior Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Valentinien le jeune pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : REPARATIO - REI PVB/ -|-// TCON.
Reverse description : Valentinien II debout de face tourné à gauche, vêtu militairement, tenant le globe nicéphore de la main gauche, relevant une femme tourelée agenouillée de la main droite.
Reverse translation : “Reparatio Rei Publicæ”, (La restauration du bien public).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités perlées. Cabochon rond gemmé. Fibule d’attache perlée avec trois pendants perlés. Ptéryges horizontales et cloutées. Pour ce type Philippe Ferrando a recensé au total vingt exemplaires dont neuf en mains privées.
Lightweight. Type 3 ribbons with beaded ends. Round gemstone cabochon. Beaded clasp with three beaded pendants. Horizontal, studded pteryges. Philippe Ferrando has recorded a total of twenty examples of this type, nine of which are in private hands.

Valentinian II, son of Valentinian I, was proclaimed august at the age of four. After being driven out of Italy by Magnus Maximus in 387, he was restored to the throne by Theodosius I before being assassinated in 392 by Arbogast, who preferred Eugene to him..
