Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Valentinianus Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Valentinien pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse description : L'empereur debout de face tourné à droite, vêtu militairement, tenant le labarum croiseté de la main droite et un globe nicéphore de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Restitutor Rei Publicæ”, (Le restaurateur du bien public).

Monnaie montée anciennement. À l’exergue, la marque d’atelier peut se développer par : “Sacra Moneta Lugdunensis” (Monnaie sacrée de Lyon).

Valentinian I

(25/02/364-17/11/375) Flavius Valentinianus

Valentinian proclaimed 25 February 364, enlists his brother Valens as of August 24 of the same year. They share the empire, Valentinian reserving the West. In 367, the emperor appointed his son Gratian august. Valentinian died 17 November 375, leaving the West in great danger.
