Exemplaire sur petit flan très épais et très lourd, bien centré des deux côtés, un peu court sur les légendes. Beau portrait. Joli revers . Belle patine vert olive foncé

Reverse legend : GLORIA RO-MANORVM/ -|-// RTERTIA.
Reverse description : Valens debout à droite, vêtu militairement, tenant le labarum chrismé de la main gauche et de la main droite les cheveux d'un captif agenouillé.
Reverse translation : “Gloria Romanorum”, (La gloire des romains).

Commentary


Poids excessivement lourd. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Grand cabochon rond perlé au diadème.

Valens, after having been proclaimed august by his brother, receives the charge of governing the East. Since Decius, he is the first emperor killed in battle by the Goths in Adrianople, August 9, 378.
