Commentary


Médaille attribuée à Rachel LEMPEREUR /1971.
Rachel Lempereur, née le 14 février 1896 à Lille et décédée le 8 octobre 1980 à Saint-André, est une femme politique française. Elle est députée du Nord de 1945 à 1958 sans interruption, quatre fois réélue. Le 10 octobre 1980, l'Assemblée nationale observe une minute de silence en son honneur. Le 19 octobre 2016, une plaque en son honneur (avec les autres résistantes et premières députées Marie-Madeleine Dienesch et Marie-Claude Vaillant-Couturier) est dévoilée au palais Bourbon, siège de l'Assemblée nationale.

Georges Thurotte, sculpteur et médailleur de renom né à Valenciennes le 18 juin 1905 (décédé e 12 septembre 2000). Cet élève de Raset et de Rufin a travaillé dès 1965 pour la Monnaie de Paris. Il est l’auteur de 35 médailles dont celle-ci pour le Département du Nord. La médaille Watteau réalisée en 1984 est
l’unique commande provenant de sa ville natale..
