La médaille est conservée dans un écrin en cuir marron (probablement pas d’origine) du joaillier E. Morgan à Nice et Paris.
Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux est un sculpteur né en 1827 et mort en 1875. Son groupe sculpté “La Danse”, sur la façade de l’Opéra Garnier, suscita un scandale en raison du réalisme des nus féminins, et un bouteille d’encre fut jetée sur la sculpture. L’original est aujourd’hui conservé au musée d’Orsay.
The medal is kept in a brown leather case (probably not original) from the jeweler E. Morgan in Nice and Paris. Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux was a sculptor born in 1827 and died in 1875. His sculpted group “The Dance,” on the façade of the Opéra Garnier, caused a scandal due to the realism of the female nudes, and a bottle of ink was thrown at the sculpture. The original is now in the Musée d'Orsay.
